Is the introduction of a UBI in Italy realistic?

Written by Sara Chemello

A Universal Basic Income has recently resurfaced in discussions among politicians, economists and policy makers as a possible proposal to solve inequalities and end poverty. Using the MacMillan Dictionary definition of a universal basic income, which defines it as ‘an income that is provided by the government for all citizens or residents, without any obligation to work or look for work.’ (https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/universal-basic-income), I will discuss the legal, economic, psychological and political effects that the introduction of this policy would have in Italy. I will focus on its advantages and disadvantages and will conclude that the latter outweigh the former.

CORONAVIRUS and EUROBONDS: Will the EU collapse?

Written by Umberto Belluzzo

Last week the coronavirus situation became worse, especially in Europe, and I assume it is clear to anyone that we still have two more weeks of #stayathome. In Italy and Spain, after almost 4 weeks of lockdown, the number of deaths per day are drastic; in UK the Prime Minister got infected and in other places such as the US, Donald Trump has passed from talking about open and crowded churches in Easter to declaring that if the number of deaths remained under 100K, the government would have done a good job. Italy has been the most affected in the world until now, counting up to ten thousand deaths with the number of infected people to over a hundred thousand.

Ten thousand deaths just in Italy is a shocking figure that makes evident the severity of this pandemic to whom, like most of us far away from the red zones, are living this quarantine as a series of long and silent Sundays.

MICROPLASTICS, WHAT ARE THEY AND WHY THEY ARE DANGEROUS?

The amount of plastic we produce is enormous, 100 millions were the tons used in 2016.

A huge part of this plastic ends up into the ocean and because of the natural phenomena it is broken into little pieces that fish and birds mistake for food, begin to be part of the food-chain.

Eating those animals we are transitively introducing these toxic pieces in our corps.

Scientists are still studying the effects of those particles but they have already imagined that the chemicals contained in the plastic polymers can be very dangerous for the mankind.

HOW MUCH MICROPLASTICS DO WE INTRODUCE IN OUR CORPS?

DONALD TRUMP impeachment inquiry: What you need to know.

Written by Umberto Belluzzo

I feel for Trump the same sympathy that I feel for the Italian minister Luigi Di Maio, an individual absolutely not qualified for the role he covers, who tells lots of lies but, at the same time, that you cannot fake you don’t love him. Sure, there is some style differences.
