Every environmentalist’s dream come true? What seemed as an unobtainable utopia? YEP it most certainly seems like it. WE ARE TALKING ELECTIC PLANES HERE AND HOW THEY WILL BE READY IN ONLY A DECADE! Unbelievable, I know.Easy Jet, the British low-cost airline is in fact collaborating with Wright Electric to build an electric (battery powered) aircraft for flights that are under two hours long. WOHOOO.
Wright Electric is an American startup whose goal is ‘for every short flight to be zero-emissions within 20 years’. Their first plane is an airliner designed for flights like New York-Boston and London-Paris. Wright Electric believes that electric air travel will not only cut down emissions but will make flying 10% cheaper for airlines to buy and operate and quieter and with lower turnaround times. Just think about the fact that a flight from London to Paris (one way) emits 180kg of CO2 per passenger! Imagine cutting that same amount for every short distance flight around the globe. INCREDIBLE.
According to the Guardian, the company ‘was founded in 2016 by a team of aerospace engineers, powertrain experts, and battery chemists, with a background in organizations including Nasa, Boeing, and Cessna’, so I guess we are in good hands…
The two companies have already announced that the first electric short distance charter will be ready and working in two decades. IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
In addition to all the advantages above, electric planes would open huge doors for green tourism for all you great environmentalists out there. I know, I’m super excited too!
